Description:
Komorebi is a Japanese word that describes sunlight seeping through the leaves of trees. Artist Robert Sangster was fascinated by the existence of such a precise word, and also inspired by the image it evoked for him: a vision of lying on the sun-dappled grass looking up through a shaded canopy. The resulting pattern was constructed by layering brush strokes of powdered graphite suspended in a glaze. This process created subtle transparencies between the brush lines that recall the sensation of light passing through the veins of a leaf.

Ideation to installation.
